Avoid The 10 Dumbest Landing Page Mistakes"

How To Create Fear Of Loss In Your Headline - When
writing an effective headline for your landing page, it's critically
important that you create a sense of urgency and/or fear of loss.
Remember, a landing page is not designed to make a sale (unless
that's what you want to do) it's meant to acquire an email address
and a new prospect . period! For example:
Urgency:
- This offer expires in 17 hours.
- Only the next 10 subscribers can get this .
Fear:
- If you don't read this page, then you are guaranteed to fail .
- according to the U.S. Department of Health, young children can
also be seriously effected by...
2. You MUST Have Two Opt-in Forms On Your Landing Page
In order to maximize your subscription on your Landing Page you
have to have at least two Opt-in forms. The first opt-in form should
be to the right of the headline or the sub-head. Regardless of
which, it MUST be above the fold. The second opt-in form has to be
at the bottom of the page as the last element of the page.
3. Why You Should Use "Graphical" Opt-in Forms
When you use graphics in your opt-in forms you will increase your
subscriber rates by as much as 39%. Obviously, your sales copy
also affects your conversion percentages. however when you use
graphical component to your page you will significantly increasing
your opt-in rate by up to 39%.
4. Never Use External Links
This is the KISS OF DEATH! Remember the primary reason for the
Landing Page is to get your suspect to become a prospect and to
have him give you his name and e-mail address. Never ever place
external links on your landing page. The visitor has only two
options: Leave or subscribe.
5. Only Ask For Name & E-mail Address
I can't believe how many 'professional' web designer still screw
this one up. They want them to give you . Name, address, phone
number, best time to call, how you heard about us, marital status,
shoe size, etc, etc. Never ask for anything more than name and
primary email address. That's it! That's all you need. I have split
tested name & e-mail address only with name, e-mail address and
phone number and the latter killed my response by 66%. That's
right 2/3 of the visitors did NOT subscribe when I asked for the
phone number. Don't make this mistake. You can always ask for
additional information once your subscriber trusts you and you
have developed a relationship.
6. Always Give Your Contact Info At The Bottom Of Your
Landing Page
In recent tests I found a 3% to 8% decrease in subscribers when I
removed my name, phone number and email address from the
bottom of my landing page. For optimum subscribe rates, include
this information EVERYTIME! Personalization is a must.
7. Why Less Is More
You should keep your Landing Page short and to the point.
Remember, you are NOT trying to sell anything. You simply want
the visitor to subscribe and take advantage of your generous FREE
offer. Too many times a landing pages are confusing and WAY too
long. You should have a compelling headline with a strong sub-
head and then you go right into 4-7 benefits statements and then
force the visitor into the registration form. LESS IS MORE!
8. Show Your Privacy Policy
It's absolutely essential that you prominently place a brief privacy
statement directly under your "Subscribe Here" button to let your
subscribers know you won't rent, sell or share their personal
information with anyone. Privacy continues to be a major concern
for most people and by simply displaying this privacy message
directly under your form will significantly increase your subscribe
rates.
9. Use Professional Graphics
This is a VERY important point for you to remember, NEVER EVER
use a cheaply designed e-cover or amateurish looking graphics
with your opt-in form. Nothing turns off your customers faster than
cheap looking graphics. As they say. a picture says a thousand
words. so make sure those graphic "POP"! Go head and spend a
couple extra bucks, it will definitely pay off in the long term.
10. Why You MUST Test.Test. and Test Again!
The only way to get more subscribers without spending more
money you have to test you Landing Page. When you test your
page make sure you only test on item at a time. It does you no
good to change the headline and the CTA (Call To Action) and the
offer. You may increase your subscribers, but you won't know
which changed caused the increase. So, it is best to change one
part at a time. First test your headline, then after you ran the
numbers THEN you test the CTA, and after you run those numbers
THEN you test the Offer. Never stop testing.
So there you have it. Building your opt-in list of targeted
subscribers should be your first and foremost task online.
To build your list quickly and efficiently, set up your landing pages
using the 10 tips we've discussed above and you're virtually
guaranteed success.

Run or Save
I've been getting
a lot of email concerning this, and although I have covered it in the
past, it does bear repeating. When you are downloading a file off the
internet you may get the option to "Run" or "Save". Either of these
options will lead you to the setup for the program and install it on
your computer, but the difference lies in where the setup file opens
from.
If you click
"Save" you can specify where the setup file goes (My Downloads or the
desktop). From there you could put it on a disk just in case you need
to reinstall it or want to put it on another computer.
By choosing "Run"
the setup process starts once the setup file is downloaded to your
temporary internet file. When you empty your temp file the setup
download goes away. This is great if you aren't a download packrat,
but you should be clearing out your temp files often or they can get
clogged with downloads.
Me? I usually
download to my Desktop then delete after install or save to a
Downloads folder or send to a disk.
