As an entrepreneur or internet
marketer making information
products diving into the software business can be both very
lucrative and yet very challenging. Typically you will need
to outsource your programming projects to outside help

three major mistakes to avoid when embarking on any
software development project to ensure your software
projects get completed on time and error free.
Get Some Testers
Anyone who has been writing software knows the importance
of testing. Call up the help from your mailing list and ask
some of them to be beta testers in return for feedback and
a free copy of the program. It is important to use end
users of the product because they always seem to find a way
to use your program in ways never thought possible.
Avoiding the Creep
The creep, also known as feature creep is public enemy
number one of any software. It has caused more project
delays, cost overruns and software bugs then most any of
the other problems combined. Most people rush right into
adding features in the middle of things, avoid that and
instead commit to a firm set of specifications at the onset
of the project and do not change them until it has been
completed and tested.
Scrub Data
If your programs have data entry fields never anticipate
them entering anything in correctly. Dates, numbers, even
text fields all need to be validated, verified and scrubbed
when the enter key is pressed or the button is clicked.
Never leave an entry field unchecked!
By far and large I have found through the years that the
number one project killer is scope creep. It is best to
avoid it like the plague, when it comes to getting feedback
from your users for potential enhancements only implement
the top one or two on the list and send the software out to
beta testers for testing after the code has been changed.
Many times your end users will hound you to implement
feature x as if they can't live without it, resist these
temptations.

Cleanup
Do you have a lot
of icons sitting on your desktop that you don't use very often?
Believe it or not, the more you have on your desktop, the longer it
takes when starting your computer. That's why I have a folder on my
desktop that is used just for the icons that I hardly ever use.
If you would like
one, it's very easy to do this. Just right click anywhere on your
desktop and click New, then Folder. This will pop up a new folder
right next to your other icons. Find that and then type in what you
want to call it. I named mine "More Icons," but you can name it
whatever you want. Just make sure you call it something that will
remind you of what it is.
Once you have the
folder named, you can just drag and drop the other icons that you
don't use into that folder. Is as easy as that! If you ever need to
access any of those icons, you can just double click on your new
folder and all of them will be waiting for you. They're not deleted
from your computer, they're just put on hold. Now you have room for
your favorite picture as wallpaper dead smack in the middle of your
desktop.
