Don't Give Up Trying to Make Money Online

«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»

The "gurus" and their products make it sound to simple. But
the fact is most people who try to setup an internet
business fail. Plain and simple, they never make more money
than they spend.

Their hyped up sales pages give you the impression you can
make millions of dollars overnight. Now, if you've been in
this business long enough to have a large mailing list,
thousands of followers, and good marketing skills, you can.
But NOT if you've just put together your first web site and
created your first info product. Like in so many areas of
life such as music, there are no overnight successes. When
you think you see someone who is an overnight success, you
don't see the years of work they put in getting there.

So many people who try get frustrated when they don't make
any sales or have trouble getting traffic. They jump from
idea to idea, from product to product, from this "guru's"
advice to that "guru's" advice. They buy product after
product looking for answers. Finally they give up, very
frustrated and very disillusioned.

The internet does give the average person the ability to
make money in a lot of different ways. If you follow those
who've paved the way, you can succeed. You can create a
nice income and not spend every hour of the day working.

Here are 20 points that can help you get there.

1. Focus on something you believe in and are passionate
about.
2. Be consistent.
3. Be honest.
4. Take advice from others if it makes sense, but think for
yourself.
5. Follow the steps of a successful person.
6. Google Page Rank (PR) is NOT important.
7. Learn some basic web skills.
8. Test your site, copy, ads, etc..
9. SEO is important but not more important than quality.
10. Links to your site (from other sites) are important,
maybe more than SEO.
11. An email list is as important as SEO and Links are.
12. Interact with your readers, it will build links and
subscribers.
13. Good content is really important to getting loyal
readers.
14. Quality products are important to repeat sales.
15. Getting customers to return is important to profit.
16. It's easier to keep a current customer than it is to
get a new one.
17. Establish contact with other bloggers and web sites
operators.
18. Your stats such as subscribers, traffic, and links will
grow in an exponential manner.
19. Multiply your efforts by getting help from others.
20. Avoid the temptation to purchase every product that
shows up in your inbox.

In future posts on my blog I'll explain each of these ideas
in depth.

Your Anti-Virus & Firewall Programs

With all the daily threats on the Internet, it sometimes amazes
me that we can surf the Net safely at all.  We stay safe, of
course, with our anti-virus, firewall and other security
programs.  But did you ever wonder how they protect you?  Here
is a brief overview.

Every day or two, your anti-virus program downloads those
updates, or virus definitions, which are added to the program's
database.  When a new file, email or program arrives on your
computer, the anti-virus looks for matches with its database.
If one is found, it means malware has been detected.  It is then
deleted or quarantined.  The anti-virus program also watches for
code that behaves suspiciously, or in a dangerous manner.

A firewall, whether hardware or software, sits between your
computer and the Internet, monitoring traffic between the two.
It hides your computer on the Internet by closing the open
connection points, or ports, in Windows.  Hackers constantly
scan the Net looking for these open ports, by which they can
attack and penetrate vulnerable computers.

For example, the firewall should warn you if someone on the
Internet is trying to initiate communications with your PC.
This is very risky behavior, and you should usually refuse to
accept the communication.

The firewall will also pop up and ask you when one of your own
programs tries to connect to the Internet.  You will soon
accumulate a list of approved programs that can access the Net
without bothering you for permission, such as Internet Explorer,
Firefox, your email programs, your anti-virus updater, etc.
Read each warning carefully; do not be too quick to give
permission.

These and other security programs will only protect you if you
keep them up to date without fail.  A few minutes a day is all
that is needed to prevent a lot of grief, frustration and lost
time.
