Procrastinator's Creed
1. I believe that if anything is worth doing, it would have
been done already.
2. I shall never move quickly, except to avoid more work or
find excuses.
3. I will never rush into a job without a lifetime of
consideration.
4. I shall meet all of my deadlines directly in proportion
to the amount of bodily injury
I could expect to receive from missing
them.
5. I firmly believe that tomorrow holds the possibility for
new technologies,
astounding discoveries, and a reprieve from my
obligations.
6. I truly believe that all deadlines are unreasonable
regardless of the amount of time given.
7. If at first I don't succeed, there is always next year.
8. I shall always decide not to decide, unless of course I
decide to change my mind.
9. I shall always begin, start, initiate, take the first
step, and/or write the first word,
when I get around to it.
10. I will never put off tomorrow, what I can forget about forever.

Hello Exchangers,
A "Warm Welcome" to all our new subscribers.
I would like to take a moment and apologize for all
the inconvenience we may have caused you for the absence
of our ezine mailings. Yes, we did send them, and apparently
a hacker attacked the central server we use for our listserver.
No, they did not get our subscriber list, however, it caused many
problems with the mailings. Some people actually received the
mailings,
but a day or 2 late, if at all.
This whole experience has been very trying
for me. I am the type of person
who is extremely punctual, and stick to a certain schedule. I
cannot handle
when things are late, or when ads and mailings are not sent as
promised.
The OnLine Exchange Ezine thrives on
reliability, punctuality and prompt
service. This has not happened this week. It is not the
fault of our listserver
techs. However, it falls on the shoulders of YOU, who expect to
receive
our ezine in a timely manner. Please give us a few more days to
get all of
this straightened out. This is the first time in 3 1/2
years where we were
down for so long.
Any business, especially online
businesses, tend to encounter problems
such as this every now and then. It is something we just have to
deal with
and get through. With your support and understanding, I know it
will go a lot
smoother. Please bare with us just awhile longer.
And just so you know, I have tons of new
gray hairs, and the others that
are not gray are falling out with stress. Luckily I have real
thick hair!
--Not much longer if these problems are not solved real soon! :)
Just a short biz note for you...
YOU HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
...Until Next Time,
Debbie Solomon
editor of The OnLine Exchange

Put Your Windows Taskbar on Steroids!
Copyright 2002 By Ramey Bell
«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤
If you use your computer as much as
I do, then you're probably
always looking for ways to save a few clicks here and there,
or improve your productivity in Windows. The Windows taskbar
is no exception. Have you "tweaked" it like the rest of your
system?
Before I share my experience with
customizing the taskbar I
must warn you. You may have to change your semi-religious
thinking that the taskbar must live at the bottom of the screen,
and that it should never be resized :O)
Here are the steps:
Begin by closing as many open program
windows as possible.
Minimize the rest so that you can see your desktop. There should
be a blank gray area of the taskbar that is free of any icons.
With your left mouse button, click and drag the entire taskbar
from the bottom of the screen to the top. (An alternative is to
click the clock in the lower right corner of your screen, click
the left mouse button, and drag and drop from there.)
Why move the taskbar to the top? Think
about it: You spend most
of your time on the top of the screen clicking on menus, buttons,
and minimizing windows. Why cruise all the way down to the bottom?
Now hover your cursor anywhere on the
bottom line of the taskbar
until it turns into double arrows, and drag the taskbar down
until it is twice the size, giving you two rows instead of one.
The toolbar that contains your minimized
windows buttons will now
be on the second row, so you will need to move it back to the
top. Note that all toolbars begin with a single vertical line.
Hover your cursor on this line until it changes to double arrows
and click and drag the toolbar back to the first row with your
left mouse button.
Right click with your mouse on an empty
area, such as directly
below your start menu button, and select toolbars and select address.
Place it on the second row all the way to the left.
Select toolbars again and this time select
new toolbar. Click on
My Documents in the window provided. A new toolbar should appear on
the second row labeled My Documents. Grab the vertical line and
slide this toolbar all the way to the right until all you See
is "My Documents >>". See what happens when you click
on the two
small arrows? A drop down menu of all your documents! Cool! You can
even directly right click any of your files here to rename, copy,
move, and more!
By following the same procedure above, you
can add other toolbars
such as Desktop, My Computer, Program Files, or any folder of your
choosing. If you add your Desktop, then you can view the files
on your Desktop without having to minimize all your open windows.
Bonus tip: There is an additional way to
increase productivity by
adding a freeware program that allows you to launch DOS commands
without looking for the DOS shortcut on the start menu.
If you would like to receive this tip,
please send an e-mail to:
That's all there is to it! You now have
the ability to type in
website addresses without having to launch your browser first, access
your documents with one click, and save time with less dependence
on the start menu. You have more room for icons on the quick launch
bar and system tray as well.
It may take some getting used to, but it's
well worth the effort.
It never hurts to save a few thousand clicks a year! :O)

Broken Shortcuts
If you use Windows, you will probably run into a situation where
an icon on your desktop doesn't work the way it's supposed to.
If you double-click it, nothing happens or you might see an error
message.
The first thing you should do is restart your computer. Yes,
Windows does have the nasty habit of losing its way at times.
I recommend a cold start. Shut down your computer, and turn it off.
Give it a minute or so to clear its memory, and then restart it.
If the problem persists after a restart, you may have a broken
shortcut.
Broken shortcuts can be fixed using several different methods:
* Windows tries to conduct a search for
the target, and if it is located,
the shortcut is automatically revised.
* You can manually revise the shortcut by
right-clicking the icon
and choosing Properties. If you know the correct file path for the
target,
type it in the Target field and click OK.
* Get rid of the shortcut, especially if
it points to a file that has been deleted
or a program you have uninstalled. You can safely delete shortcut
icons
without affecting the file or program they point to.
