situation. For anyone who did not read the
AOL Rumor, please email me and I will send
you the information. Just to re-cap a bit;
AOL is limiting the amount of emails sent
from a single source, which means if you run
a newsletter or ezine, or any kind of mailing
list, and you have more than 100 AOL subscribers,
then your email will be dumped into cyberspace
without warning or acknowledgment. So, if you
have 1,000 AOL users on your list, only 100 will
receive them and the other 900 will never know
they were supposed to get something.
Well, this WAS just a rumor, so I recruited
our AOL subscribers into helping us research
the situation. And guess what? It is worse
than we thought. Here is what one of our fellow
AOL Exchangers had to say (unedited and name withheld):

Yes it's true.
My Bro. & Cuz. belong to aol &
I have sent family stuff to them under
the BCC.
They were returned & I only had 25 people
listed.

Anti-Spam Software:
Pot Smoking Passed - Marketing Failed, As Did Wal-Mart!

Anti-Spam software was designed to "protect"
our "inboxes and our children" from viewing email
that might otherwise be deemed unacceptable reading.
Really? Well, could these fascists please explain to me
as to why an ezine, which contained the words "Pot Smoking"
in the subject line and in the content, passed in to MY email!
And at the same time both Marketing and Wal-Mart FAILED miserably.
Wal-Mart's welcome message even failed -
which shows how poorly designed this software really is!
I am sure the lawyers at Wal-Mart would have an absolute
field day knowing that their beloved newsletter is being marked
as SPAM!
And not only that, but I am sure they would also love to know
that Pot Smoking passed the test, seeing as how their company
DOES promote, both family and community values.
Now I don't go around subscribing to ezines of Pot Smoking nature,
but it just happened to be a Headline topic from
a large online company that features News Feeds.
So, I put it to the "test" and got the result I was looking
for,
so as to PROVE this software is NOT all it appears to be.
I have also taken the liberty of sharing with you a few lines
right off the McAfee web site:
Quote:
"SpamKiller comes with thousands of filters already installed
and new filters are released regularly, based on careful analysis
of McAfee spamtraps. Spam Killer checks McAfee.com servers
once a day for new filters -
so your protection is always up-to-date."
End quote.
So what they are saying is that they use ENTRAPMENT
in order to target us. Talk about UNETHICAL!
Here is another quote:
"If you want to fight back, SpamKiller makes it easy
to send complaints. Send automatic or manual complaints,
make your email address look invalid to spammers and much more.
SpamKiller automatically finds and suggests the relevant
email addresses in both headers and text,
so complaining to spammers, Web hosts,
ISPs or anybody else just takes a few mouse clicks."
End quote.
No wonder everyone I talk to is complaining
about the enormous amount of invalid email addresses
that they have been getting on their lists lately!
And send "auto" complaints, isn't that just dandy?
So, some "newbie" or a person with a vendetta can
easily make your life a living HELL!
Another point - a person using this software does NOT
have to supply their REAL name or their REAL email address
upon installation, it's MERELY suggested that they do.
Think they will? I HIGHLY doubt it!
There you have it, McAfee
(a company I will NO longer EVER recommend)
has decided to join the "sleeze" in the fight against spam.
In a highly UNETHICAL manner!
I think I smell some pretty LARGE lawsuits coming on
and I say LET'S BRING IT ON!

I leave my computer running all the time, and never shut it off.
This is because I have a lot of automated replies to email I
receive, and honestly it is better for the computer. My
computer checks for email automatically every three minutes, and
if it receives a request for information, it sends the reply
three minutes later.
Windows however doesn't like to run all the time, seems to get
confused, and you have to restart your system. Rather than
re-starting the whole computer, you can do a "warm boot",
which
is usually faster.
To do a warm boot, hold down the SHIFT key while you click the
OK button on your shut down screen. Windows will restart without
re-starting the whole computer.
